3-Step Guide to Hunter Hall Classroom Technology

  1. Turn the projector on using remote
  2. Share your screen using Vivi
  3. Log out of Vivi and turn off projector when class is over

Step 1: Turn the projector on using the remote control

To turn the projector on, click the green power button once using the Sony remote control. It can take up to 20 seconds for the projector to warm up. Vivi instructions should be displayed on the projector screen. If not, use the remote control and press the Input button until you find the correct input source and the instructions are displayed.

*Please allow a few seconds after switching inputs to allow the Vivi’s video to display before trying another input.

Step 2: Share your screen by using one of the following methods

Podium computer

If using the podium computer:

  • Log in to the computer using your UTC ID (abc123) and password.
  • Select the Vivi icon from the Desktop and start from #2 below.

Laptop/Android/iOS you bring into the classroom

If using a personal device: Connect your laptop, tablet, or smart phone to the UTC network and follow the steps below to connect your device using the Vivi app (start at #1 below). IT recommends downloading the app ahead of time before class to ensure a faster and easier connection. To download the Vivi app, open your browser or device and navigate to (http://get.vivi.io). If you’re on a laptop, the correct version will be downloaded (refer to our step-by-step guide for desktop app on your laptop installation below). If you’re on an iOS or Android device, you will be re-directed to your app store to install the app.

  1. Open the Vivi app. (Launch Video Tutorial of this portion)
  2. Leave the email or username field blank. Type “utc” for the Organization Code and click Find my Organization.
  3. Select University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
  4. Select Log In and enter your UTC credentials. The email format for faculty and staff is UTCID@utc.edu and for students it is UTCID@mocs.utc.edu. Duo authentication is required.
  5. Select your building and room.
  6. Click Join Room at the bottom of screen. If prompted for a room code, enter the code on the screen in the room.
  7. Select Share Screen to share your screen.
    1. If you are using a Windows device, your screen will share immediately.
    2. If you are using an Android device, a pop-up may appear asking you to allow screen mirroring. Screen sharing will begin once you give permission.
    3. If you are using a MacBook, you may need to enable AirPlay mode. If needed, instructions will appear on your device.
    4. If you are using an iOS device, you will need to enable Screen Mirroring by following the instructions on your device.

Downloading the Vivi desktop app on your laptop

To ensure a faster and easier connection, IT recommends downloading the Vivi app on your device ahead of time before class.

  1. Open your web browser (ie. Google Chrome, Firefox, Edge, etc.).
  2. Navigate to http://get.vivi.io. The correct version will be automatically downloaded.
  3. Locate and double-click the setup file.
  4. A dialog box will appear. Follow the instructions to install Vivi, keeping the default settings.
  5. You may be prompted to install Visual C++. If prompted, select Agree and Install. You will then be prompted to restart your computer. Once restarted, rerun the setup installation file for Vivi.
  6. Once installed, select Launch Vivi and Finish.
  7. The Vivi app will open. Refer to Step 2 to connect to your classroom.

Using PowerPoint or Keynote

Open and play your presentation on your device. Vivi will extend your display and presenter view/notes will be shown on your device screen.

If using the Vivi annotation feature during your presentation, the display will go back to screen mirroring and end presenter view/notes.

Extending or Mirroring your screen

On Windows: Once sharing your screen, press the Windows key + p key at the same time. Choose Extend to treat the display screen as a separate screen or Duplicate to mirror your computer screen.

On Mac: To extend your screen engage AirPlay after selecting to share your screen. Open the AirPlay menu and select Use As Separate Display. To mirror your screen, click the Screen Mirroring icon in the Control Center (top right hand corner of screen), then click on the name of the room.

Using audio

Audio will be played through the projector. You can adjust the volume using the volume control on your device.

*You may also have to adjust the audio using the volume control on the projector remote if the sound is not loud enough after turning your device audio to max volume.

Step 3: Before leaving the classroom

Log out of the Vivi app. Select the gear icon at the top right corner to open the Settings menu. On the left-hand side of the menu, select Log out.

Please turn off the projector before leaving the classroom. Click the green power button once using the Sony remote control.

Log out of the podium computer if you are using it.
