How often do I have to change my UTC password?

Body

Password expiration notices are sent out a minimum of 7 days prior to your password expiration date. This expiration applies to all UTC systems like MocsMail, MyMocsNet, Canvas, Active Directory, and any other system that you access with your UTCID and password. To update your password go to https://www.utc.edu/pw.

UTCID (NetID) Password Policies

Standard Password Policy

The standard policy for UTC accounts requires the password to expire at least every 180 days (6 months). This expiration applies to all UTC systems like MocsMail, MyMocsNet, Canvas, etc.

IRIS Password Policy

If you have access to IRIS your UTCID password will expire every 60 days.

The IRIS system is the University of Tennessee's SAP application suite.  IRIS is the umbrella system for all payroll, HR, financial, and purchasing systems for all campuses and university-wide administration.  If you no longer require access to IRIS and would like to have this policy removed from your account, please contact your departmental payroll/financial representative.

Non-Expiring Password Policy  -  only applies to UT system resources.

At this time, passwords used for UTC resources will still expire according to the 60 day or 180 policies.

Once a NetID account is set up to use two-factor authentication & the password is reset to a 12 or more character password, the password will NEVER expire.  This only applies to accessing UT system resources like Microsoft O365, IRIS, and the UT Vault (vault.utk.edu).

*If your existing password is 12 or more characters when you set up two-factor authentication, you will need to reset your password one more time to have the non-expiring password policy added to your account.
