How to Remove Office License on MacOS

This article is a walkthrough of how to resolve the following error message on Office for macOS: "Your account abc123@utc.edu doesn’t allow editing on this Mac"

Directions

  1. Close all Office applications that are open.

  2. If your Mac is managed by UTC:

    1. Open the Self Service application

    2. Run 'Fix Office License'

  3. Otherwise, you will need to download the license removal application.

  4. Go to https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=849815
  5. Install the application and go through setup as shown below.

  6. Launch Microsoft Word and sign in using your Microsoft account.

  7. After signing in you can validate your licensing by going to “About Microsoft Word” in Word.
