Intro to ArcGIS Online (AGOL)
ArcGIS Online is a collaborative, cloud-based GIS platform that allows members of an organization to use, create, store, and share maps, apps, and data, and access other GIS data, base maps, and ArcGIS apps. Through ArcGIS Online, you get access to a secure cloud where you can manage, create, and store data as published web layers and perform spatial analysis. Because ArcGIS Online is an integral part of the ArcGIS system, you can use it to extend the capabilities of ArcGIS for Desktop, ArcGIS for Server, ArcGIS Web APIs, and ArcGIS Runtime SDKs.
Note: You do not need and AGOL account for ArcGIS for Desktop. However, you do need an AGOL account for ArcGIS Pro.
Supported Versions & System Requirements
ArcGIS Online operates through your browser. You will not need to download anything to access ArcGIS online as a University of Tennessee member.
