UTC will be transitioning to Microsoft as the primary university-wide platform for collaboration and productivity tools, reducing the use of Google services on campus. This change aims to provide a consistent experience, enhance security and privacy, and manage costs more effectively.
Students accepted to UTC for Fall 2026 and forward
We will migrate accounts for students accepted to Fall 2026 from Google to Microsoft in January 2026. Any students accepted for Fall 2026 after January 1, 2026 will only be provisioned an account in Microsoft. No action is needed at this time.
Students enrolled in Fall 2025, Spring 2026, Summer 2026 – How to Prepare
No direct action is needed at this time, but you can take several steps to get ready by becoming familiar with Office 365.
- Access your Microsoft 365 account and begin to become familiar with navigating the Office apps of Word, Excel, OneDrive, and PowerPoint. Faculty may begin transitioning classroom activities over to Microsoft during the 2025-2026 academic year.
- Clean up your Google Drive by deleting files you no longer need.
- Clean up your Gmail account by deleting old emails that you no longer need.
- Begin migrating emails, files, and photos that you need to keep for personal use to an non-UTC account using Google Takeout. Student accounts are retained for one year after leaving UTC before they are expired and deleted.
