Description
A Limited Duration Appointment (LDA) is a form of regular employment for a specific project or for a limited period of time. An LDA may be established for up to one year with an option to renew the appointment annually for a maximum of three years. A full search may be conducted in Taleo, or a search exemption may be requested.
Process
For LDA positions that are not posted in Taleo, HR will need the following to process the hire:
- If LDA is a new staff position, please complete the Classification Request Form.
- Request for Exemption of Regular Staff Search
- HR will initiate a request for electronic consent for a background check.
- Initial Hire/Rehire Form (new employee) or Personnel Change e-form (existing employee).
- Upon approval of the above, HR will provide a draft LDA offer letter for review and finalization.
NOTE: A verbal job offer should not be extended until the Request for Search Exemption and Initial Hire/Rehire or Personnel Change Forms are approved. HR will notify the hiring manager when an offer may be extended.
If it is determined that an LDA will be needed beyond the maximum 3-year period, a full search will need to be conducted in Taleo in order to fill the position as a regular, non-LDA position. The recruitment process would need to occur well in advance of the LDA end date.
