Get Started with IT: Account Checklist (Students)

Body

The following checklist will walk you through activating, signing in, and getting set up with services and programs you will need to succeed at UTC. If you have any questions, concerns, or need further assistance, various ways to reach out can be found at the bottom of this page here.

New Student Account Setup Checklist

1. Activate your UTC Account and Enroll in Duo Two-Factor Authentication.

  • Your UTC Account will be your primary way to access classes and resources. Duo mobile helps keep your account safe and secure by requiring additional verification.
  • Username Terminology
    • NetID: Students can find their NetID on their admissions acceptance letter by checking their status at utc.edu/apply
    • Your UTC is three letters and three numbers, like ABC123, and will often match your NetID. It is used to access UTC systems and services. It can be found alongside your NetID on your admissions acceptance letter.
  • If you have previously been a Student, Staff, or Faculty member at a UT campus and already have a NetID, please Reset Your Password here to sync your password to UTC.

2. Acceptable Use Policy

  • Review UTC's Acceptable Use Policy for the University's standards on responsible technology use.

3. Login and Customize MyMocsNet

  • MyMocsNet is UTC's central hub to essential services and resources. It is available anytime on the web at mymocs.utc.edu or via the 'MyMocsNet' mobile app.
  • The MyMocsNet portal includes many helpful resources, including these quick technology guides:
    • Technology Support Page - Go to Pages on the left menu and then locate UTC Cares to find this page.
    • Account Management Widget – Easy access to Password and Duo Mobile management on your MyMocsNet dashboard.
    • Account Info Widget – Easy place to view your UTCID, NetID, Microsoft O365 username, and primary email address.

4. Sign in to MocsMail+

  • MocsMail+ is your University-provided e-mail account, helping keep you in touch with Professors and Advisors, as well as keeping up with campus announcements and activities. UTC currently uses Google for student email accounts with a format of utcid@mocs.utc.edu. This is accessible via your MyMocsNet account or by going to https://mail.google.com/a/mocs.utc.edu.

5. Activate your MocsCard

6. Get Connected to the UTC Network

  • Once you’re on campus, you’ll probably want to get all your devices connected to our Wifi network. Click above for instructions on getting everything connected at UTC!
  • Tips for getting on the Wifi.
    • Make sure you have turned off MAC/Private IP randomization.
    • All devices have to be registered with us for access at portal.utc.edu/registration once you have connected to the "UTC" network.
    • Some devices like TVs may require you to access the registration portal on a separate device to enter the MAC Address.
    • Once registered, computers, phones, and tablets are eligible to go through additional installation steps to connect to the UTC-Secure network.
