Personal Device Adapters & Classroom Event Preparation

Summary

This article explains the standardized AV technology available in UTC's standard classrooms, including provided adapters, preparation tips for classes and special events.

Body

Overview

UTC classrooms are equipped with standardized AV technology to support teaching and learning. This article outlines which adapters are provided, when to contact IT, and how to prepare for classes or special events. These guidelines apply to standard classrooms only, not large auditorium style events.

Adapters & Personal Devices

  • UTC does not provide additional adapters when instructors, presenters, or guests choose to use their own laptops or personal devices in classrooms.
  • Most general-purpose classrooms include built-in HDMI and/or USB-C connection options at the podium or teaching station.
  • Some general classrooms may also include:
    • Vivi wireless casting
    • Document cameras
  • Specialty classrooms may vary in available connectors and equipment.
  • If your device requires a specialized or proprietary adapter, please bring the required adapters with you.
  • If you need a quote for quality adapters—such as HDMI to DisplayPort, USB-C to HDMI, or VGA to HDMI—please let us know, and we can provide one.

Special Software & Personal Devices

If you plan to present using specialty software that is not installed on our standard podium desktops, you will need to bring your own device to class.

Special Events, Programs, and Guest Speakers

If you have an upcoming event requiring AV or computer integration (guest speakers, Zoom lectures, presentations, panels, etc.):

  • Notify IT at least two weeks in advance.
  • Early notice allows us to:
    • Ensure the room is configured properly
    • Identify a classroom better suited for the event’s technical needs, if necessary

Semester & Event Preparation

To minimize interruptions during instruction or events:

  • Please test your setup before the semester begins, especially if you plan to use:
    • A new personal device
    • A unique adapter
  • For special events, test your device and presentation materials ahead of time in the assigned room.

If you encounter issues during testing, submit an IT ticket and our team will be happy to assist.
