All special requests should be submitted two weeks in advance
Overview
UTC classrooms are equipped with standardized AV technology to support teaching and learning. This article outlines which adapters are provided, when to contact IT, and how to prepare for classes or special events. These guidelines apply to standard classrooms only, not large auditorium style events.
Adapters & Personal Devices
- UTC does not provide additional adapters when instructors, presenters, or guests choose to use their own laptops or personal devices in classrooms.
- Most general-purpose classrooms include built-in HDMI and/or USB-C connection options at the podium or teaching station.
- Some general classrooms may also include:
- Specialty classrooms may vary in available connectors and equipment.
- If your device requires a specialized or proprietary adapter, please bring the required adapters with you.
- If you need to purchase a quality adapter; such as HDMI to DisplayPort, USB-C to HDMI, or VGA to HDMI -- please let us know, and we can provide assistance and a quote for your department to order the correct adapter.
- UTC does not provide presentation clickers, please bring your own clicker if one is needed.
- Rooms with microphones are not typically equipped with lavalier headsets, so presenters will need to bring their own if required.
- A limited number of lavalier headsets may be available through the IT Solutions Center in Maclellan Gym, Room 201, but availability may vary.
- All rooms do not have Handheld Mics, if they do have Handhelds, our managed IT spaces are not equipped with Microphone stands.
Special Software & Personal Devices
If you plan to present using specialty software that is not installed on our standard podium desktops, you will need to bring your own device to class.
Special Events, Programs, and Guest Speakers
If you have an upcoming event requiring AV or computer integration (guest speakers, Zoom lectures, presentations, panels, etc.):
- Notify IT at least two weeks in advance.
- Early notice allows us to:
- Ensure the room is configured properly
- Identify a classroom better suited for the event’s technical needs, if necessary
Semester & Event Preparation
To minimize interruptions during instruction or events:
- Please test your setup before the semester begins, especially if you plan to use:
- A new personal device
- A unique adapter
- For special events, test your device and presentation materials ahead of time in the assigned room.
If you encounter issues during testing, submit an IT ticket and our team will be happy to assist.
