Note: Please connect to UTC-Secure to access the files.cha shared drives.
This article is in reference to shared drives hosted on premise for files.CHA, any shared drives in Sharepoint will be accessed via the Sharepoint link. To access the Shared Drive while off campus, you must connect through the UTC VPN: Connect Your macOS Computer to the UTC VPN To request access to a departmental shared drive, please have your supervisor submit a ticket to IT.
Directions
Step 1: Open the Connect to Server Window
- Open Finder.
- Select Go from the menu bar.
- Click Connect to Server

Step 2: Enter the Shared Drive Path
In the Server Address field, enter the path for your department's shared drive.
Example:
smb://files.cha.utc.edu/DepartmentName
Replace DepartmentName with the name of your department's shared drive.
Click Connect.

Step 3: Sign In
When prompted:
- Select Registered User
- Enter your UTCID
- Enter your UTC password
- Click Connect

Step 4: Select the Shared Drive
After authentication, a list of available shared drives will appear.
Select your department's shared drive and click to open.

Step 5: Access Your Shared Drive
Your shared drive will now appear in the Finder sidebar under Locations.
You can browse, open, and save files as needed.
(Optional Step) Automatically Reconnect at Login
If you would like the shared drive to reconnect automatically after signing in:
- Open System Settings.
- Select General > Login Items & Extensions.
- Under Open at Login, click the + button.
- Select the mounted shared drive.

The shared drive will now automatically appear in the Finder sidebar each time you sign in.
