Transition from Avaya to RingCentral Phone Services

We are excited to share that UTC will soon begin a modernization effort for campus telephone services. As part of this initiative, UTC will be transitioning to RingCentral to provide an improved and more modern telecommunications experience across campus.

This project has officially been approved and is now moving forward. The migration will take place in phases beginning in June 2026, with good progress expected through December 2026. To help keep the process organized and manageable while minimizing disruption to campus operations, the transition will occur one building at a time.

IT will ensure interoperability between Avaya and RingCentral throughout the migration so departments with employees located in different buildings or phases of the rollout can continue communicating without disruption. In addition, existing phone extensions will remain the same throughout the transition.

Before any work begins within a specific building or departmental area, IT will communicate directly with department leadership to provide additional details, timelines, and expectations for that phase of the project.

Our goal is to make this process as smooth and minimally intrusive as possible. IT staff will work closely with departments throughout the transition and will be available every step of the way to assist with questions, coordination, and support.

Next Steps for Faculty and Staff

The IT department will be reaching out to departments and employees to coordinate their transition to RingCentral. In the meantime, we recommend the following:

  • Review your current phone setup, including desk phones, shared lines, call queues, or other specialized needs within your department.
  • Identify any critical business processes that rely on your current phone service so they can be considered during migration planning.
  • Watch for communication from IT regarding your department’s migration timeline and next steps.
