This article applies to students who have been attending UTC before Fall 2026.
The University is transitioning to Microsoft as the primary university-wide platform for collaboration and productivity tools, thereby reducing reliance on Google services on campus. This change aims to provide a consistent experience, enhance security and privacy, and manage costs more effectively.

How to Access My Microsoft Account
- Locate your Microsoft username in the "Account Info" widget in your MyMocsNet account. It will typically be your NetID@mocs.utc.edu. If you have applied to or attended another UT campus, your Microsoft username may be different. To request changes to the username to update it to mocs.utc.edu, visit utc.edu/upn and select "I only want my O365 username to match my UTC account".
- Access the Microsoft Outlook app at outlook.office.com to sign in with your Microsoft username and UT password. Outlook is always available to download in the app store for your mobile device.

Click on each question below to expand the section and view more information.
Will my email address change?
Your UTC email address (utcid@mocs.utc.edu) will remain the same. However, once your mailbox is migrated, you will need to use Outlook instead of Gmail to send and receive emails. New messages will no longer be delivered to Gmail once migration is complete for your account.
Will my Google account still be available after the migration?
Yes. You will still retain access to your Google account. However, Gmail access will be discontinued 30 days after the migration. Access to your Google account for other services, such as Drive, Classroom, etc., will continue to be available.
Will you move my email, calendar, and contacts? If so, when?
Yes. As part of the mailbox migration, your email, calendar, and contacts will be migrated from Google to Microsoft O365.
Current students will be migrated in batches. Once we have scheduled your account for migration, you will be notified via email with information about your migration date and actions you may need to take beforehand. This migration phase of the project is designed to give you adequate time to label or organize any items in your Gmail mailbox that you would like to migrate.
You will be able to continue to view your Gmail mailbox for 30 days after we migrate the content for you.
Is there anything I need to know about the Gmail migration to Outlook?
During the migration, UTC IT will copy your email and calendar from Gmail to Outlook. Here are a few limitations to the migration:
Please note that you will see duplicate emails in Outlook due to differences between the two systems and how messages are routed. Unfortunately, this is expected and may need to be cleaned up manually.

Will my archived emails be copied? Will they be in their own "archive" folder?
If a message does not have a label, it will not be migrated. Microsoft recommends assigning all important archived messages at least one label.
How will emails with multiple labels in Gmail be organized in Outlook?
The migration tool will copy the message to each corresponding folder in Outlook.
Will there be a folder for each combination of labels?
No. 1 Gmail label = 1 Outlook folder.
Do labeled email threads containing multiple emails all appear grouped in the same folder in Outlook?
An Outlook folder will be created for each label, and messages will be copied to each corresponding folder.
Will email drafts be copied?
Will messages in Trash be copied?
Yes. Trashed messages in Gmail will be migrated to the trash folder in Outlook. If you do not want these messages migrated over, empty the trash folder in Gmail before your migration date.
