Microsoft Azure Dev Tools for Teaching

Overview  

UTC students and faculty have access to Microsoft software through the Microsoft Azure Dev Tools for Teaching program. This software is licensed for academic use only and may be used by the following:

  • Students who are actively enrolled and attending courses at UTC that lead to academic credit, certification, or a degree. 
  • Faculty who are teaching courses, assist with courses, labs, or programs, or conducting non-commercial research.

Please see Microsoft's Azure Dev Tools For Teaching license agreement for allowed uses and other conditions related to these software packages. You are solely responsible for ensuring compliance with the license terms. To purchase a license of a specific Microsoft software for staff or administrative use, please submit at request at https://utc.teamdynamix.com/TDClient/2717/Portal/Requests/ServiceDet?ID=49851.

Frequently used software include: Project, Visio, Visual Studio, Windows 10, Windows 11, R, and SQL server.

How to Sign Up 

  1. Go to https://signup.azure.com/studentverification?offerType=3 to sign up.  Microsoft recommends using a private/incognito browser.
  2. Enter your UTC email address (NetID@mocs.uts.edu or NetID@utc.edu) and NetID password.
  3. On the next screen, complete the Academic Verification.
    • In the box under School Name type Chattanooga and select The University of Tennessee-Chattanooga (Chattanooga, TN). 
    • Enter your date of birth. 
    • Complete the human verification and click Next. 
  4. Click the box next to I agree to the subscription agreement, Azure Dev Tools for Teaching agreement. Then, click Verify academic status and accept terms. 
  5. The next page will be the Education Hub. Click Software located on the left-hand side of the page and search for the software title.

 

6. Click the software and the View key and Download button should be available on the right side of the page.

Accessing Software through Microsoft Azure Dev Tools for Teaching

  1. Visit https://azureforeducation.microsoft.com/devtools
  2. Click Sign In.
    *Sign in using your UTC credentials, authenticating with your NetID password via Azure.
  3. Once signed in, choose the Software option on the left to view the available software.
  4. Select the desired software to open installation options.
  5. In general, each software will have a download option as well as a license key.
    *Install the software and have the license key handy when launching the software for the first time.

Installing Microsoft Project

NoteThe online version of MS Project for UTC cannot be used to create new projects. The online version is limited to viewing projects that have already been created or being added to a project. The desktop client for MS Project is needed to create a new project. 
  1. Visit https://azureforeducation.microsoft.com/devtools
  2. Sign in using your UTC credentials, authenticating with your NetID password via Azure.
  3. Navigate to the MS Project software to install.
  4. Click Software.
  5. Choose MS Project Professional.
  6. Click Download.
  7. Click View Key to copy the required product key.
  8. Once the Office installer finishes, launch Project and insert the product key when prompted.
  9. Microsoft Project is ready to use.
