Connect Your Mac OS Computer to the UTC VPN

Special Notes

  • The UTC VPN requires two-factor authentication with Duo.  If you have never set up Duo before, please visit Setting up Two-Factor Authentication (Duo) to get started.
  • The UTC VPN along with two-factor authentication is the only approved method of remote access to the University local network and connected resources. Other methods may be blocked.
  • All UTC faculty, staff, and students have access to the VPN.  By default only UTC's publicly available services and the Internet are accessible.  If you require access to privileged services, you must request an account elevation.

Directions (First time)

  1. Open your preferred web browser to: https://netaccess.utc.edu/vpn/

  2. Download the appropriate software version (Mac OS)

  3. Once the download has completed, install the client
  • During installation, some users will be notified that a system extension was blocked.  If this happens, click the 'Open Security Preferences' button and click the 'Allow' button
  1. After installation, the GlobalProtect client will appear in the system tray

  6. After successful login, you will be presented the two-factor options from Duo to either receive a push notification or enter a passcode.

  7. After completing the two-factor authentication, you will be connected to the VPN.

  1. Open the GlobalProtect client by clicking on the system tray icon

Troubleshooting

When trying to connect, if the GlobalProtect app never connects and eventually says 'Still Working' then the system extension was blocked during installation and never allowed. (See step three under the first time directions above.)  To allow this extension after the fact, follow the steps below.

  1. Open the 'System Preferences' app

  2. Click 'Security & Privacy'

  3. Click the 'General' tab at the top

  4. At the bottom you may see a message that states 'System software from developer "Palo Alto Networks" was blocked from loading
  • If so, click the 'Allow' button and reboot your computer

  • If not, reinstall the GlobalProtect following the directions above.  If the system extension does not prompt during installation, follow these troubleshooting steps again starting at number 1.
