Get Started with IT: New Employee Checklist

Tags faculty staff

The following checklist will walk you through activating, signing in, and getting set up with services and programs you will need to succeed at UTC. If you have any questions, concerns, or need further assistance, various ways to reach out can be found at the bottom of this page here.

New Employee Checklist

1. Activate your UTC Account and Enroll in Duo Two-Factor Authentication.

  • Your UTC Account will be your primary way to access UTC Resources. Duo Mobile helps keep your account safe and secure by requiring additional verification.
  • Username Terminology:
    • NetID: Faculty and Staff can find their UT NetID by searching for themselves in the UT Online Directory. It is used to access UT systems like DASH and Microsoft.
    • UTCID: Your UTC is three letters and three numbers, like ABC123, and will often match your NetID. It is used to access UTC systems and services.
  • If you have previously been a Student, Staff, or Faculty member at a UT campus and already have a NetID, please Reset Your Password here to sync your password to UTC.

2. Acceptable Use Policy

  • Review UTC's Acceptable Use Policy for the University's standards on responsible technology use.

3. Get Connected to Campus Wifi

  • Get your devices connected to UTC's Wifi Network, or if you will be working remotely, get set up with the UTC VPN here. We recommend all employees connect to UTC-Secure as their wireless network.

4. Login and Customize MyMocsNet

  • MyMocsNet is UTC's central hub to essential services and resources. It is available anytime on the web at mymocs.utc.edu or via the 'MyMocsNet' mobile app.
  • The MyMocsNet portal includes many helpful resources, including these quick technology guides:
    • Technology Support Page - Go to Pages on the left menu and then locate UTC Cares to find this page.
    • Account Management Widget – Easy access to Password and Duo Mobile management on your MyMocsNet dashboard.
    • Account Info Widget – Easy place to view your UTCID, NetID, Microsoft O365 username, and primary email address.

5. Login to your UT Microsoft Account

  • All UTC employees are provided a firstname-lastname@utc.edu email account in Microsoft 365 for collaborating and conversing with other UTC colleagues and departments, as well as for receiving UTC updates and announcements.
  • Your login will typically be in the format of NetID@utc.edu unless you have been at another UT campus or a UTC student. You can find your Microsoft username on the “Account Info” widget in MyMocsNet.

6. Activate your MocsCard

7. UTC-ALERT System

  • The UTC Department of Public Safety utilizes UTC-ALERT to provide our campus community with critical information immediately. Please make sure to enroll to receive UTC Alerts here.

8. Set up your UTC Phone
